Our experts

Who writes our guides, who checks them, and the standard anyone has to meet before their name appears on this site.

We're recruiting our specialist reviewer

We would rather show you nothing than show you a name you can't check. KeepTheLot's guides are currently written and fact-checked by our editorial team against primary sources — GOV.UK, HMRC, the Office of the Public Guardian, MoneyHelper and the Law Society — and every page tells you the date it was last checked.

We're appointing an independent specialist (SRA-regulated solicitor, STEP or IPW member) to review our guidance. When they're in place, their name, credentials and a link to their public professional register entry will appear here and on every page they review — so you can verify them yourself.

The standard we hold ourselves to#

Anyone presented as an expert on this site must have:

  • a real name we publish in full;
  • a credential that exists — SRA-regulated solicitor, STEP member (TEP), CLC or IPW;
  • a link to their entry on the relevant public register, so you can verify them without taking our word for it;
  • a bio explaining what they actually review for us.

If we cannot publish all four, we publish none of them.

Why that matters more here than elsewhere#

This site covers money, law and family — the areas where bad information does real damage. The internet is full of estate-planning content bylined to plausible-sounding professionals who cannot be found on any register. Some of it is written to sell trusts that the reader does not need.

Rather than join in, we say what is true: our guides are currently written and fact-checked by our editorial team, working from GOV.UK, HMRC, the Office of the Public Guardian, the Care Act statutory guidance and legislation itself. Every page shows its sources and the date its figures were last checked.

Verifying anyone — including advisers we introduce you to#

You can and should check credentials yourself:

Are you a qualified professional?#

We are looking for an independent specialist reviewer — a solicitor, TEP or IPW member — to review our guides on wills, trusts, care-fee planning and inheritance tax. It is paid work, credited on every page reviewed, with a full profile and a link to your register entry. Get in touch.

Frequently asked questions

Who writes KeepTheLot guides?

The KeepTheLot editorial team — writers and researchers who work from primary sources and check every figure against GOV.UK or HMRC. Our editorial policy sets out the process in detail.

Why is there no named expert yet?

Because we are still appointing one, and we will not invent someone in the meantime. A credential a reader cannot verify is worse than no credential at all — it is the exact signal that separates trustworthy publishers from the rest in this sector.

Is your content reliable without a named reviewer?

Judge it by the sources. Every figure links to GOV.UK, HMRC or the legislation, and every page shows when it was last checked. That is verifiable in a way that a byline alone is not. That said, a specialist reviewer adds a layer we currently do not have, which is why appointing one is our priority.

This is general information, not legal advice. Everyone's situation is different — speak to a qualified adviser before acting. KeepTheLot is an independent information service covering England & Wales. We are not a law firm.
