Accessibility

A lot of our readers are over 60, and plenty use larger text, screen readers or keyboard navigation. The site is built accordingly.

What we aim for#

WCAG 2.2 Level AA. We are not claiming a formal audit has been done — it has not yet — but the site is built to that standard and tested against it.

What we have done#

  • Contrast: every text and background pair is checked to at least 4.5:1 for body text and 3:1 for large text. The brand palette is mid-blue, so body text uses a dark ink colour rather than the brand blues.
  • Text sizing: everything scales with your browser's font settings, and the layout works at 200% zoom without horizontal scrolling.
  • Keyboard: every interactive element is reachable and has a visible focus outline. A "skip to content" link is the first thing you reach.
  • Screen readers: proper heading structure, landmarks, labelled form fields, and errors announced and linked to the field.
  • No JavaScript required: every page — including the calculator and the enquiry form — works fully with JavaScript disabled.
  • Motion: we respect prefers-reduced-motion.
  • Touch targets: at least 44×44px.
  • Plain English: an accessibility issue as much as a style choice. Jargon is explained on first use.

Known issues#

  • Wide comparison tables scroll horizontally on small screens. They are marked as scrollable regions and are keyboard-reachable, but a table is still harder work on a phone than on a desktop.
  • Illustrations are currently placeholders and are marked as decorative. When final artwork is added, anything conveying information will get a proper text alternative.
  • No formal third-party audit has been carried out yet.

Tell us if something does not work#

Email hello@keepthelot.co.uk with the page and what went wrong, including the assistive technology you use if that is relevant. We treat accessibility reports as bugs, not suggestions, and we will tell you what we have done about it.

If you would rather not read a screen#

Everything here is free to print — pages are formatted for printing with navigation and calls to action removed. You are also welcome to ask us for a page in another format.
